Childwall Sports Centre Contact information for Childwall Sports Centre UECHI-RYU LIVERPOOL (Lineage) Uechi-Ryu was brought to Liverpool in 1975 by David Scott who had travelled to Okinawa and was a direct student of Kanei Uechi himself. Sensei Scott in turn taught Steve McNally (6th Dan) who teaches the classes at the Liverpool Dojo.This club believes that Uechi Ryu is a martial art in the tradition of 'Karate-do'. 'Do' translates as 'way' and the emphasis on the art as a 'way' is perhaps explained by this quote from an interview with Kanei Uechi : "Training half-hearted won’t build a Karate person of good character. Karate is not something so simple as to teach only fighting. Through the spirit of budo, Karate aims to build people of good character. Practicing only the physical aspect is putting Karate to ill use. I want everyone to learn proper orthodox Karate; a Karate that is beautiful and that they can be proud of." |
